2019年4月28日下午2点整，由荷兰著名雕塑家、艺术家Thom Puckey教授领衔指导，米兰官方网站入口施煜庭副教授主持的 “诗意的机器” 实验艺术工作坊圆满结束，工作坊的成果汇报展在设计学院一楼展厅如期举行。

Thom Puckey教授先后任教于荷兰皇家艺术学院、荷兰登波士设计与艺术学院，对机器美学有深入研究。

诗意是文学的艺术，传动是空间的艺术。中国传统机械与诗意的碰撞，观念与技法的尝试，功能与美学的关系，都是本次工作坊的亮点所在，吸引了很多老师和同学驻足观看。

参与本次工作坊的设计学院研究生们经历了理论导入、思维发散、草拟计划、制作模型、调试修整、作品搭建以及策展布展的完整流程。首先听Puckey教授介绍了关于机器的运作原理和案例，再去中华农业文明博物馆和南京云锦博物馆参观中国传统农业机械，同学们开始思考自己的作品，经过四周的努力，呈现了一场关于“诗意的机器”的精彩课程展。对于我们来说， 这是一次高标准的对于观念与技术相结合的探索，以及实际动手能力的磨炼，获益匪浅。

本次工作坊以3-5名学生为一组，共设计了11组作品。通过风能、水能、电能等动力带动凸轮、链条、擒纵器等一系列机械部件的运动， 以形态提取、抽象再现、材料置换等方式表现作品传统文化与现代技术结合的理念，进而表达设计者们思考。

4月29日下午2点，工作坊指导老师Thom Puckey教授、设计学院党总支书记吴海卓、米兰站官网网站实验艺术中心主任邬烈炎教授、设计学院副院长蒋杰、副院长周庆、韩巍教授、卫东风教授、施煜庭副教授出席此次开幕式。Puckey教授、吴海卓书记、邬烈炎教授、蒋杰副院长、研究生代表分别致辞。

邬烈炎教授在开幕式上说：“诗意的机器是将中国传统机械与诗意相结合的一次实验艺术，就像Puckey教授所说的机械、功能、结构、材料以及在它们之上产生的想象力，非常感谢Puckey教授第二次来到南艺并带领学生们做出11组极富感染力的作品。” 

Thom Puckey教授对设计学院研究生的学习态度和专业能力给予了肯定：“第二次来到南艺主持工作坊我非常开心，和同学们像朋友一样朝夕相处，从提出方案到动手制作模型同学们都很积极，始终保持着对传统机器元素强烈的表现欲，和他们一起工作的日子令我难忘。”

吴海卓书记对工作坊课程展给予了好评：“举办诗意的机器实验艺术工作坊是非常有意义的工作，契合了设计学院教学的实验性和交叉性，突显了前沿性和边缘性，对拓展学科领域意义重大，希望这样的工作坊能够持续下去，为本科课程建设增添新的内容和元素。”

蒋杰副院长说：“这是一个非常棒的工作坊和展览，事实上这是Puckey教授应邀第二次来南艺了，相比第一次工作坊我们的忐忑，这次我们的工作坊更加自信了。这个工作坊也为设计学院未来的教学树立了一个范式，无论是主题、人员、技术上，都表现出来了跨界合作的良好态势。”

学生代表李天发言：“作为学生，我们的辛苦都是应该的，最后的通宵调试为的就是能在展出的这天拿出更好的作品呈现给大家。感谢Puckey教授对我们的鼓励和支持，感谢施老师的悉心指导和其他老师的帮助。

展览现场参观的师生被运转中的机械深深吸引，与设计者们进行交流，甚至去体验了部分装置互动环节。部分组运用了水的流动来表现作品的诗意，引来了无数观众的提问，同学们耐心向观众们解说自己的设计理念与传动原理。

此次工作坊可以说是去年的延续，与其它工作坊最大的不同，不光在于“运动”，还有作品“诗意”的表达。

未来几天，在设院一楼这样一个学生们日常穿梭地教学楼空间中，观看“机械”自带的运动属性，观看“连接”的美感，思考时间、空间、关系等更多本源概念。

Course description

The rich and astounding discoveries and developments in ancient Chinese machine technology, using only the resources of nature as power sources, show us enormous amounts of inventivity, ingenuity and imaginative power. It is the aim of this workshop to look carefully at some examples of this ancient

technology, to give careful attention to its materiality, its technical aspects, its use of natural energy resources, and its apparent philosophical and poetical implications. Then, to look at this all through modern eyes, seeing the machine not only as an item of use-value, but also as an artistic and design-based means to express our humanity through poetic and expressive beauty, we want to consider the possibilities of fusing the ancient with the contemporary. 

In our present day world, our fascinations with robotics and 'the internet of things' are combined with an increasing concern for the natural environment and for a responsible and sustainable use of energy resources. Based on the personal experiences and interests of the students themselves, we want to pursue ways to combine the ancient and the contemporary, natural materials and power sources (water, wind, heat, solar energy etc.) with small-scale robotics, the poetry of machine parts in real-time operation with switching and wi-fi control mechanisms (ranging from photoelectric cells to the mobile telephone). The aim is to produce poetic expressive machines and apparatuses, with quite and subtle means and effect. We want to pay great attention to the composition of the working groups, understanding the need for good discussion possibilities, mutual inspiration, efficient division of tasks and labour, and practical methodologies. Each group will have the responsibility to invent, produce and construct its own machine.

Eventual combination of two or more machines from different groups into larger, more complex, and sturdier constellations will be actively encouraged.

Program

Week 1: Introduction to basic mechanics, ancient Chinese machine-technology, small-scale robotics and digital wi-fi control-mechanisms. Consideration of the machine-idea as poetical expression. Division of the

class into groups.

Week 2: discussions, planning and sketching in the groups. Proposals and critical perusal of the plans. Final choices of form, construction and content.

Weeks 3 and 4: Production, testing, finalisation and presentation of machines.
